OPZ is launched on holidays
The world nitrogen market is preparing for another growth in October, and the launch of the most powerful Ukrainian fertilizer producer can take place at a good time.
In NW Europe, Yara raised prices for ammonium nitrate (AN) and calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) for October delivery.
In Germany and Benelux, the price of CAN-27 was increased by EUR 5 per ton to EUR 295 per ton CIF.
In France, ammonium nitrate AN 33.5 is now priced at €375/t CPT, up €7/t from the previous price of €368/t CPT.
These terms are effective immediately and a limited amount of saltpeter will be available. We are waiting for an increase in export prices in Poland.
In contrast, the price of ammonia increased only in India and the countries of Southeast Asia. The increase so far is 12-15 dollars. US/t, but the trend may strengthen. A buyer from Northwestern Europe bought a batch of 20,000 tons of ammonia from Algeria at a price of $530. USA/t, FOB.
Ammonia in the Mediterranean Sea is bought by Jordan JPMC - 23,000 tons, but no applications were received at the first stage of the tender.
The Odesa Port Plant is being launched right now. We know that the launch is somewhat delayed due to a gas pipeline failure that was discovered during pre-launch tests. Currently, the flaw is being fixed.
In September, the plant will produce at least 30,000 tons of urea and a batch of 7-10,000 tons of ammonia.
In October, production may increase, but it is not necessary to forecast volumes and terms yet, because the plant has been standing still for a long time (3 years). The launch of the plant will allow Ukraine to close the need for nitrogen fertilizers and resume exports already at the peak of the market in the spring of 2025.
The possibilities of the market and the plant will be discussed on October 10 at the Agrochemical Conference in Vinnytsia, where the leading Ukrainian fertilizer producers are invited together with the leading agricultural associations.
