Autumn feeding of weakened crops
On weakened crops, it is better to use autumn top dressing, which is more justified for crop formation than spring top dressing and even more top dressing on frozen soil.
In many regions of Ukraine this year, he strongly recommends the use of autumn fertilization. At the same time, it answers the question of which fertilizers are suitable for this.
"We tested different types of fertilizers, in particular, ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and urea, for several years, which differed in weather conditions - moisture regime and air temperature, etc. And I will tell you that in most years there was no significant difference between these types of fertilizers. We equated to the same dose of the active substance. That is, if we applied 30 kg/ha of nitrogen, urea, nitrate, and ammonium sulfate were almost equal. But in the dry year of 2024, the picture changed dramatically in favor of ammonium nitrate, the scientist said
Thus, in drought conditions, ammonium nitrate worked much better, ammonium sulfate did the worst. Urea showed an intermediate result, despite the statements of various experts that urea for top dressing is a waste of money.
In response to the question of how to spread or apply with a seeder, he says that it is best to apply with a seeder, if the plant phase allows.
"But in most cases, starting from the autumn, we fertilize those crops that cannot be fertilized with a seeder, because the rows will be wrapped, we fertilize by spreading. I would recommend focusing on ammonium nitrate for spraying. Or on KAS. These are the types of fertilizers that are the most problem-free regardless of the weather conditions of the year.
