Fertilizer production in Ukraine decreased by 15%
OSTCHEM nitrogen holding plants produced 1.33 million tons of mineral fertilizers in 9 months of 2024. This is 15.3% lower than in the same period of the previous year. Cherkasy "Azot" produced 1.06 million tons of mineral fertilizers (-13.11%), and "Rivneazot" - 304.9 thousand tons (-12.2%).
In 2023-2024, the two plants of the Osthem group were the main producers of fertilizers in Ukraine, in fact, this is more than 90% of the total production of dry fertilizers.
Production fell for all major types of nitrogen fertilizers.
Production volumes of ammonium nitrate decreased by 16.09% (from 652.5 to 547.6 thousand tons). The output of KAS, which previously showed the highest growth dynamics, fell by 11.68% (from 473.1 to 417.9 thousand tons). The biggest drop in the volumes of Ukrainian production occurred for such types of fertilizers as urea from 330.3 to 263 (-20.17%) and VAS (- 48.9%) from 36.9 to 18.9 thousand tons. The production of commercial ammonia also decreased from 48.6 thousand tons to 43 thousand tons (-11.4%).
"Today we produce as much as the market is ready to consume. Our plants were unevenly loaded in 2024 and are still not operating at full capacity. However, now the hot season has started and the production facilities are being loaded more. Despite the increase in the price of gas, blackouts, and the increase in imports from Russia-friendly countries, we are clearly fulfilling our production plans. Ukrainian fertilizers for the agro-industrial complex are produced in accordance with commercial contracts, not a single supply was disrupted this year," said Serhii PAVLYUCHUK, director of production at OSTCHEM.
He added that Cherkasy "Azot" and "Rivneazot" continue to improve the production process and implement modern technological solutions for energy saving.
In particular, the installation of the own power generation system made it possible to reduce electricity costs by 40%.
As previously reported, on April 12, 2024, Group DF International together with South Korean Hyundai Engineering signed a large-scale agreement on the construction of a chemical hub in Rivne. The project envisages the construction of factories for the production of green ammonia and hydrogen based on renewable sources of electricity; new enterprises and production sites for the production of nitrogen fertilizers and derivative chemical products.
